Wooden scale model of a GONDOLA from 1882.
Length 55 cm - Width 8 cm
Some gondolas are fitted with a cabin known as a felze to protect passengers from bad weather conditions or to provide some privacy 😉.
This tiny pouf is only 2,5 cm in length and 1,5 cm in width.
The oar is placed on the forcola. This wooden part , usually made from oak , has a decorative shape and plays an important role to use the oar in various positions depending on the rowing style of the Gondolier.
The metalic part at the bow of the gondola is called ferro ,whilst the the one at the stern is called risso . Each part of the ferro represents the districts of Venice, its islands, Rialto bridge and the curve at the bottom represents the grand canal.
